MAKATI CITY, Philippines - Despite having the longest lockdown in the world, we in the Philippines felt like 2020 went by in a blur. As such, this piece of news may be a bit old but actually, many people were not able to pick this up because of all that transpired, thanks (or no thanks) to the COVID19 virus which took center-stage worldwide.
On January 30, 2020, T.Dining Philippines of Philippine Tatler magazine awarded M Dining's Tom Bascon as the Best Chef of 2020.
Chef Tom Bascon, whose knowledge on the food and beverage arena goes all the way back to Bacolod City where his family had the renowned Bascon Hotel at the height of the sugar boom in the 1970s, claimed the Best Chef award in view of his magnificent performance at M Dining.
Bascon, who honed his culinary skills at the French Culinary Institute, has given invaluable contributions to the success of M Dining (formerly Masseto) since it reopened its doors in a new location in 2016.
As its executive chef, of one of Manila’s most celebrated fine dining restaurants, Chef Tom Bascon took over M Dining’s menu, introducing a masterful fusion of Western and Asian flavours all while maintaining a great respect for the produce. Bascon, armed with his background in Japanese cuisine, having worked half a decade at Nobu in New York, learnt to appreciate quality produce, transforming them into wonderful culinary creations.
This, combined with his ingrained attention to detail, has become Bascon’s trademark.
We look forward to the end of this plague to savor Chef Tom's culinary delights.
